SUMMARY:Airport Design Challenge for Gifted Junior and Senior High Students
DESCRIPTION:Description: The AY23-24 challenge will focus on incorporating computer design/drawings to develop and construct a scale model of a new airport configuration/layout. Teams will consist of 4 to 5 students with fewer members at the discretion of gifted teachers. This year’s competition (23-24) is to use concepts from Engineering Technology (i.e.\, application of science and engineering to support product improvement\, industrial processes\, and operational functions) to identify\, compare\, analyze\, demonstrate\, and defend the most appropriate airport design to support modern aircraft. Through use of an inquiry-based learning approach with mentoring and coaching\, the students will have an opportunity to learn (and apply) the skills and general principles associated with the challenge in a highly interactive and experiential setting. For example\, the students will need to consider and understand various aircraft types and support system needs of airport operations as they relate to the operation and maintenance to best support their proposed airport. \nDetails:  Now is the time to submit the number of your students who will be attending the Airport Design Challenge Tour on November 1\, 2023 (tour – 3 “tour buses” will be supplied by the Mount Pleasant Area School District) .  On November 1\, 2023\, there will be capacity for 144 persons.  One bus of the three buses will be reserved for Senior High Students.  Each Senior High team can bring 8 students and each Junior High Team can bring 10 to 12 students on the tour (since there is more interest at the Junior High level).   This year applicants can only be accepted from the Westmoreland Gifted Consortium due to high demand. Applicants will be accepted on a first come\, first served basis. \n

SUMMARY:2nd September Engineering Webinar - PennDOT's BOA
DESCRIPTION:Topic: BOA’s eGRant System Demonstration \nDescription: A walk through the eGrant application and invoice process in eGrants. Part of the application will include an addenda tab that will capture all the contingent items required for the project to move forward. eGrants will work and act differently than dotGrants but have similar features and processes you are used to. Through eGrants Sponsors will now complete an application to apply for a grant. An invitation to apply will be sent to the Sponsor via email with project specific information pulled from JACIP. The invitation to apply email replaced the previous TA process. In order for a sponsor to receive a grant the application must be completed and submitted in a timely manner. \nGuest Speaker: Amy Stum\, Project Manager\, BOA \nRegister Here!
